Foreplay/Long Time (Jon’s One Man Band Boston Cover)

NEWS UPDATE: Jon is touring with Funk Vigilante in July. For dates/cities: http://www.funkvigilante.com.

This video: A cover version of Boston’s “Foreplay/Long Time” presented in split screen. Jon Baglo playing all the instruments. Spencer Needham doing all the bg vocals. And featuring the amazing David Steele on lead vocal.
Here’s David’s web site:

Note re: the drums… You’re hearing take two… a continuous performance with no punch-ins or fixes. Unfortunately, I could not be there to videotape it. So Jon did ONE more take just for the video camera. Hence the discrepancies . I’d say 3 or 4 mismatches during a re-enactment of over 7.5 minutes of drumming is pretty good.

Recording engineer: Jon Baglo.
Mix engineer: Dale Baglo.
Steadicam & video editing: Dale Baglo.

Jon is forming a band: “Subject Zero”

    Wow!! I watch alot of YouTube vids and keep finding myself coming back to this and listening to it time and time again. This perfomance is practically flawless. The instrumentals and vocals are spot on. I would have liked to seen how this was layered and put together. Very talanted and professionally done. I wonder is any members of Boston have actually seen and heard this? Surely they have. What a great tribute to a great band. Now if Jon would only play “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey.

    @caplesproductions …
    @caplesproductions Exactly. This edit was relatively straightforward. If you look for my video of “25 or 6 to 4″ you see the same kind of approach, but with the added complexity of the individual camera angles changing shape and size throughout.

    @noahwillis Yeah, …
    @noahwillis Yeah, you use a good editing program, such as Premiere Pro, Avid, Sony Vegas, or in his case he used Final Cut Pro, and you just reduce the size of each video stream to 50 percent, and place it in the appropriate corner of the screen. The tough part is synching the video in each stream, and that’s why clapboards are used.

    @SDfreakazoid No …
    @SDfreakazoid No synths were used on the original by Boston, and it seems to me that we’d read it was done with pick scrapes. So that’s what we did, as you can see. There’s a TON of reverb and digital delay on the scrapes.

    Yup, you rock for sure. I’ve been covering this song for longer than you’ve been alive and have heard every version from sad to pretty dang close. This one goes on top of the stack though as the best yet. I’m sure know how freakin’ fortunate you are to have:
    1)Parents that “get it”
    2)Access to loads of the “right” hardware
    3)Access to these talented vocalists.
    Can’t wait to see what you do next!
